NOTES
A colony without a queen will need to be united with another or it will not survive.
Poorly performing colonies can be united with stronger colonies. Any colony can be strengthened by adding the workforce from another.
The beekeeper may wish to reduce the number of colonies for various reasons.
The main precaution in uniting two colonies is that there should only be one queen between the two when they are united.
Precautions should be taken to avoid the colonies fighting (see study_notes_3_13 ).
It is generally held that unting two poorly performing colonies only produces another poorly performing colony.
