Peeblesshire Beekeepers Beginners Course 2019
If you are thinking of keeping bees or just want to find out a bit more about this fascinating hobby, you are welcome to come along to our beginners day.
This years course will be held on Saturday 27th April 2019. Meet at 9.30am for 10am start. Finish approximately 4.30pm.
The venue will be at Manor Village Hall, Kirkton Manor, near Peebles. Location Map
There will be presentations, practical demos and, weather permitting, a visit to the association apiary.
The course will cost £35 per person to cover instruction, refreshments, equipment and a years membership of PBKA.
After completing the day course, hives at the association apiary will be available for hands on experience throughout the season with support from experienced local beekeepers.

Pub meeting Wed 3rd April
The local beekeepers will be meeting in the back bar of the Neidpath Inn Peebles on Wednesday 3rd April at 7.30pm.
Bees are flying regularly now. The first blossom trees are flowering and that will bring a welcome source of nectar. It should soon be warm enough to do the first inspections of the season.
We will be deciding on dates for our apiary visits and more plans for the centenary.
Come along for friendly chat, help and advice.
Pub meeting Wed 6th March
The local beekeepers will be meeting in the back bar of the Neidpath Inn Peebles on Wednesday 6th March at 7.30pm.
The recent warm spell has kick started the new season. Bees are flying now and bringing in pollen to start expanding the brood nest. It is important to check that colonies have adequate stores to see them through.
We will be making plans for the association colonies and for our centenary celebrations. So please come along and find out the latest news.

The local beekeepers will be meeting in the back bar of the Neidpath Inn Peebles on Wednesday 7th November at 7.30pm.
If you haven’t made winter preparations for your hives it’s time to think about feeding, mouse guards and winter varroa treatment.
If you need advice on this or any other beekeeping topics there will be plenty of opinions on offer from the local association members.
If you are a potential new beekeeper – come along and find out what it’s all about.

Association Apiary Maintenance Sat 25th August
Peter will be visiting the apiary for a maintenance check on Saturday 25th August at 2pm – postponed from last weekend.
This will hopefully just be a quick check to see what needs doing in terms of possible honey removal and varroa treatment.
Anyone who is interested to come along is very welcome but please contact Peter beforehand if possible.

Association Apiary Maintenance 31 Jul-2nd Aug (Provisional)
Date and time provisional. Details will be posted here and by email when confirmed.
A rota of experienced beekeepers will check the association colonies roughly every 10 days. Ranald will be leading this visit.
Beginners will be welcome to come along to these sessions.
Visits should not take more than an hour. The midweek visits are suggested for the Tuesday-Thursday.
This way the visits can be shared, and place less of a burden on the usual small core of volunteers.
